What is an IPL (Intermittent Pulse Light) Machine?

An IPL machine, or Intense Pulsed Light machine, is a device that uses a flashgun to emit a broad spectrum of light to treat the skin. IPL machines are used for a variety of skin treatments, including hair removal, photorejuvenation, and treating acne.

How do IPL (Intermittent Pulse Light) Machines work?

IPL machines use a flashlamp to create a bright light that's directed onto the skin. The light is absorbed by melanin in the hair and in skin which either stunts hair growth, or causes pigmentation to break down the skin and be re-absorbed - depending on what you are treating. For thread veins, Intense Pulse Light (IPL) can be used to safely and effectively remove these telangiectasias. Targeted bursts of Intense Pulse Light (IPL) are absorbed by the blood in the thread veins, which coagulates and destroys the blood vessel, being completely absorbed, and removed by the body over time.
